Jon Firth
Transactional analysis counsellorAbout Me
Hello, my name is Jon. I am a full time experienced fully Qualified Accredited Counsellor with National Counselling Society (NCS) offering Psychotherapy and Counselling. I work both online and in person with a diverse range of clients from all walks of life and age groups, often with clients who's lifestyles are 'non mainstream' in some way.
My 'specialist areas' are Abuse Survivors, Trauma / PTSD, Relationships including Couples, Addiction, and Anxiety.
I am Double Vaccinated and Boosted - I require in person clients to be at least double vaccinated.
I work with Adults (18 +) both Couples and Individuals. I suggest a short telephone call initially at which time I may offer you a first appointment if we agree to move forward, or may suggest we have a zoom / online meeting before we decide to work together.
Initial agreement six sessions - I expect you will identify some improvements by then.
I work Short (Less than 20 weeks), Medium and Long Term with clients.
To me longer term means over a year. If you've been a certain way all your life, it can take time to change.
My main modality is Transactional Analysis, this is a Humanistic talking therapy, a systematic way of Personal Change and Growth.
TA is a large part of the Humanistic College at United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)
I am also a Qualified Trauma Focused Therapist - New Haven Competencies Certificated.

I trained in Psychotherapy under the very thorough UKCP criteria - Masters Level 7 / 5 years (I am writing my final exam/dissertation so still count as a trainee at UKCP, it is usual/common to be working as a full time therapist before completing this lengthy piece of work)
I spent many years in therapy - Individual, Group and Marathons which is healthy as the main purpose of this is to make sure what happens in therapy between us is not mixed up with any unresolved issues of my own. It's important to choose a therapist who has had sufficient therapy so unconscious process's are not confused. Psychotherapy is different to Counselling from my learning and experience.
I receive Supervision from a variety of Supervisors to make sure I am working effectively, and to demonstrate my Ethical practice. I am also a Supervisor and offer Supervision to Therapists and Trainee Therapists.
