John Spearman Psychoanalytic psychotherapist , N19
I simply see anyone who wants to change something in their lives.
As a psychotherapist with over 10 years experience, I am trained not only to work alongside you to understand and respond to the causes of your distress; but also to know how difficult it can be to make that first contact.
If you call me on 07833302995, or email me at [email protected], I will reply sensitively, promptly and in confidence.
Essentially, I am trained to listen and think with you, and to create a safe, confidential space so as to explore the often unfamiliar patterns of the inner world. Some of these patterns, which are often laid down in childhood, can be the unseen driving forces that manifest in a variety of ways from anxiety to depression.
It can be these hidden forces that prevent us from leading fulfilled and satisfied lives. These patterns are identified and reflected upon and it is out of this thinking together that understanding can deepen and change is made possible.
My work is based on a regular rhythm of one, or more, fifty minute sessions each week. This kind of therapy is for people who are interested in exploring their thoughts and feelings in the medium and long term.
When you first make contact, we will fix an appointment for one or more initial consultations, the aim of which will be for us to think together about your needs, and decide whether psychoanalytic psychotherapy might be helpful to you. Then we'll both take a bit of time to reflect upon this discussion. The next step might involve my offering you regular appointments - at times and at a frequency that we agree upon mutually.
Training and qualifications
My professional training in Psychoanalytic psychotherapy was undertaken at the British Psychotherapy Foundation (BPF) in north-west London. I have been working as a psychotherapist for over 10 years - initially as an art therapist, and then later as a biodynamic psychotherapist. My work is inevitably informed by this depth and variety of experience.
I am a full member of the BPF, and accredited by the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC), the registrant body for my professional organisation.
My experience as a psychotherapist includes work within the NHS, as well as in private practice.
I retain a portion of my practice for clients on a low income and therefore am sometimes able to offer a reduced fee for which I operate a sliding scale depending on your financial situation. This would be discussed at the initial consultation.
My fee is £65-£80 a session depending upon the time of day and frequency.
