Dr Joanne Lacey
Integrative psychotherapistAbout Me
I've been working a Behaviour Change Psychologist for over 20 years and as a Psychotherapist since 2013. My style as a therapist is quite direct, change focused and big hearted. I see therapy as work, but the good work that can bring bring life enhancing and sustainable change. If some part of you, however small or uncertain, is open to change, then you are off to a bright start, and you are welcome to read on. I work with people age 16+ and with couples or partners. Same sex, heterosexual and undefined partnerships are all welcome.
Here's a little bit more about my experience, qualifications and approach. It will help you decide if I might be a good fit for you. I have a Phd in Social Psychology which focuses on how the culture of the time influences how we think, feel and behave. Social Psychology also looks at behaviour change and how that can be encouraged to happen. I have an advanced diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, which is Person-Centred. Person-Centred Psychotherapy believes in therapy as a collaborative working relationship and it draws on what is in the room at the time, i.e. what a client is saying and how, what they are not saying and how, what their body language is saying, what is happening between the therapist and the client. Its a very focused method that works on the immediate presentation of an issue. I'm an Accredited Psychotherapist with the BACP, which means that I have done extra training and passed further assessments to achieve a higher level of qualification.
I also have a Certificate in Body Psychotherapy. This involved a 5 year training in the USA and means that I am qualified to use bio-physical breath and muscle release to help loosen blocked emotions, alongside talking therapy.
I work with couples or partners using the IMAGO principles of relational therapy. This is a really successful and evidence based approach to working with relationships. It uses a systematic method to teach people to communicate better and ultimately connect better, whatever might be going on.
I work in an integrated way with the whole person AND with a keen eye on their everyday life. If therapy doesn't leave the 'room' to drive some sustainable change in a person's life, however small, then it is not doing its job.
