Jo Bullen
Family/Systemic psychotherapistAbout Me
I have completed clinical training in Occupational Therapy and Systemic Psychotherapy. Prior to clinical training I studied Social Anthropology which underpins my interest in the dynamics of human social/relational systems. Throughout my academic and clinical journey I have developed a specialist interest in the mind/body interface and how health and illness are understood and communicated within the self, in relationships and in the wider community. I work with individuals, couples and families and my focus is thinking about how our relationships, interactional patterns and dynamics can become difficult or stuck and can start to cause us problems. Through understanding how these patterns and dynamics have emerged we can start to think about how to connect in a different way and consequently use these relationships as a resource for understanding and healing.
I have experience working within Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, Paediatric Psychology, Adult Mental Health services, Eating Disorder Services within the NHS, I have also worked in the charity and private sectors. I work with individuals, couples and families and use an integrative approach when thinking about the models and theories that I draw from in my clinical practice.
I work in a relational, dynamic and creative way with an emphasis on kindness and compassion. I believe in the strength and value of human connection and developing our ability to understand ourselves and others as fundamental to our wellbeing. The principles of thinking, doing and being are at the heart of how I practice.
I am a trained yoga teacher and I incorporate the principles and unity of breath, movement and mindfulness into my clinical practice.
