About me
A few months ago, were you thinking about starting therapy? A few months from now, will you still be thinking about starting therapy? Or instead, will you already be well on the path towards feeling more solid and centred in your life? Imagine what that could feel like. I've been where you are. I believe passionately in de-mystifying therapy and showing up as my fully human self with you. I bring my empathy, my humour, my enthusiasm and even my sweary vocabulary to the connection - because I am a human first, therapist second. I am both real and relatable. But therapy is about you: you possess the ability to create profound and lasting change in your life. As a psychotherapist, it's my job to provide an authentic and safe relationship to help you achieve that, through exploration, support and challenge. Using a straightforward to-the-point style, I take a bespoke approach with each client, allowing your needs to guide our work. I often find myself working with a lot of people in their 20s and 30s who feel a bit lost or stuck in patterns, and are struggling to find a sense of their true self/identity, who might wrestle with "people-pleasing", or are having trouble establishing healthy, fulfilling relationships. I'm really good at helping people learn to set boundaries, ask for what they need, and live more authentically. I'm really good at coaching people through the confusing dating and relationship waters. Many I work with are from the LGBTQ+ community, in poly/non-monogamous relationships, or in a period of exploration and transition. Most importantly, I enjoy working at depth - sinking into the stuff of real life and finding understanding, to create a sense of solidity, growth and trust within ourselves as we get to know (and like!) who we are. I work extensively with low self-esteem, anxiety/depression/trauma, sexuality/identity, relationship problems, emotional abuse, difficult family issues, childhood neglect, parental estrangement, and bereavement. My main approach is psychodynamic - I help you untangle the formative and sometimes unconscious experiences which influence the shape of your current day life, and use that to foster change. I am also trained in IFS (Internal Family Systems) for deep transformational healing. IFS is an intuitive, non-pathologising approach which helps us to access our most wounded parts, and unburden the trauma they hold. It's life-changing stuff! I also offer (optional) specialist EMDR to help you heal unresolved trauma or move through difficult stuck places. EMDR can shift and transform long-held pain and negative core beliefs. It can be done either in-person or online, either stand-alone or weaved in alongside standard talk therapy. EMDR is very effective for issues which feel too difficult to talk about, and you may have read about it in “The Body Keeps the Score” or recently seen Prince Harry discuss his experience of it. It can also be done “intensively”, allowing for concentrated periods of work on specific issues, to accelerate progress in a matter of weeks, rather than months or years. You can see more about my intensive offerings here: https://chancerylanetherapy.com/emdr I offer face-to-face sessions. My office is centrally located at Chancery Lane, Holborn, (WC1V), where I also offer morning and evening availability. I also offer online therapy, which can be more convenient for people with limited time, mobility, access or availability. What's the first step? I offer a full 50min initial consultation at a reduced fee of £45. This is a full session, allowing you to discuss the issues you'd like to focus on, and to decide if I'm the right fit for you as a therapist. Please feel free to text/email/call me to arrange a no-obligation consultation session. Following on from the first meeting, sessions are weekly, either short-term or longer-term. Fees are £100/hr. I dedicate 20% of my overall total availability to concession slots - let me know if this is of interest and we can discuss your personal circumstances. More About Me: I come from a 20yr background in social care. In my spare time, I enjoy running, art and independent music gigs. I have a rescue greyhound and adore living in South London. My pronouns are she/they. It is important to me that my practice is intersectional, trauma-informed and works with gender, sex and relationship diversity from an affirmative and supportive stance. I undertake my own work on anti-racism, anti-ableism, anti-fatphobia and anti-oppressive practice on a continual basis. I am also registered with Pink Therapy, a directory for LGBTQIA+ therapy services https://pinktherapy.com/therapist-directory/jen-bellanich/ I am an affiliate of Holborn Psychotherapy Practice https://www.holbornpsychotherapypractice.com/jen-bellanich
