Do you have something you need to talk over, or does life feel generally out of balance? Do your relationships need support?
Working Online And by Telephone
Given the current unprecedented circumstances I am able to offer the following:
Online counselling is often more effective than face to face therapy (University of Zurich, 2013). It also enables you to receive counselling wherever you might be and from the comfort of your own home, using your preferred format: video, audio, live chat or email.
If you choose to work with me online I will use trusted and GDPR compliant technology applications in order to keep our work confidential.
If you are isolated or feeling anxious about face-to-face or video sessions for any reason, I am able to offer telephone sessions so long as you give me a couple of days notice so please do not deprive yourself of support if you need it. I am here to help you. Just let me know.
I have worked in a variety of settings over the years including the NHS, drug and alcohol services, the voluntary sector and in private practice. I am a recognised counselling provider for several private Health Insurance Providers and Employee Assistance Programs ncluding Bupa, Aviva, First Assist, Capita, Workplace Options, Oakdale/MHCO and Validium.
I help with: Anxiety Addictions Anger Management Bereavement and loss Co-Dependency Depression Eating Disorders General unhappiness Loneliness and isolation Self esteem issues Relationship difficulties Personality Disorders Childhood abuse Domestic violence Sex, sexuality and intimacy Stress Mid Life concerns Work related difficulties Personal Approach
My core approach to counselling is 'Person Centred'. This kind of counselling places great emphasis on providing a safe, empathic, non-judgemental space for clients to discuss whatever is troubling them. In addition I also offer a Cognitive Behavioural Approach using practical techniques drawn from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. CBT helps you identify and change unhelpful thoughts, patterns and behaviours. I am also trained in EMDR therapy.
About Me
Some 24 years ago I found myself unsatisfied with life and realised that I had somehow lost my direction and passion. I began seeing a counsellor to explore some issues and to embark upon a journey of self discovery. As my values, feelings and frame of reference slowly changed I became more interested in therapeutic work and enrolled on a course to train in counselling.
How Does it work?
How we work together will depend on the reasons you are attending counselling, your goals and what you feel comfortable with, which we can discuss when we begin. A focus in our work may be how we can help you make changes in your life, for example, finding ways to relax, to build self-esteem, relate with others differently or combat your depression and anxiety, so that you can move forward in your life in a more rewarding and fulfiling way.
How long does it take?
Counselling is usually a weekly session of 50 minutes. It may be just a few sessions, or it can continue for a year or longer. How long we continue depends on whether you are still finding it helpful – we can check that out regularly.
Once we decide to work together I usually suggest we work for 6 weekly sessions and then review but ultimately it is entirely up to you to decide what feels right for you.
