About Me

Hello! My name is Jay, and I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Psychotherapist and academic.

My practice combines often quite practical short-term survival strategies with much more in-depth childhood oriented work (working with things like dreams, fantasies and long suppressed memories). I also bring in questions about how our wider cultural identities - our gender, ethnic background, and sexual orientation, for example - may interact with our personal history to shape our mental health. I love my work, and I am told that shows. I am often the 'go to' therapist for people who have had unsuccessful previous therapies.

I do lots of different things like write about mental health for the Guardian and Independent, activism and teaching. I have my geeky side, so I have done loads of different trainings in psychoanalysis and systemic therapy as well as clinical psychology. I worked in the NHS for 15 years - doing everything from leading a large integrative psychotherapy team, to setting up and managing an early intervention in psychosis team, and working as senior lecturer in psychology on a counselling psychology doctorate. My work, though, is just as informed by my own experience of significant mental health problems and treatment when young, as well as my time living in spiritual communities. Unusually for a Consultant, I spend the majority of my time working with clients as this has always been my favourite aspect of my work.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me on [email protected].

Fees

My standard fee is £100 per session.

I also have a low cost scheme predominantly for people who are on benefits like ESA/PIP/DLA.

I am lucky in that both clinics tends to be full, but I will let you know straight away if a space is available. I do not run a waiting list because I think the decision to start a psychotherapy and reach out for help is really important, often really courageous, and that it is important to use that energy and not wait around.

Training and qualifications

I have done a number of trainings including:

- Doctorate in Clinical Psychology

- Masters in Psychology

- Postgraduate Diploma in CBT for Psychosis

- Postgraduate Training in Systemic Psychotherapy

- Training formation in Lacanian Psychoanalysis
