About Me

I am a fully qualified, experienced psychotherapist and counsellor working in Tenterden, Kent TN30 & online using video or phone.

I see adults for longer-term therapy or short term focused work depending on their needs, but always in a safe, confidential and non-judgmental setting.

In regular weekly sessions we would think together about whatever is troubling you, whether it is a specific concern or a longer term problem. Issues I have dealt with as a therapist over the past ten years include:

  • depression
  • low self esteem and self confidence
  • anxiety and stress
  • bereavement
  • other losses, such as divorce and redundancy
  • family relationship problems, past childhood experiences or current parenting concerns,
  • other relationship difficulties (for example: starting, sustaining or finishing relationships or repeating the same type of relationship)
  • work-related and career concerns
  • sexual concerns or sexual identity
  • infertility, post-natal depression and terminations

It may be that none of above seem relevant to you, but you still feel an all-pervading sense of discontent or lack of fulfilment with no clear cause; you may want help in thinking about a particular concern that worries and preoccupies you or you may merely be curious to understand yourself better. In all cases, counselling would be an invaluable and helpful experience.

I work from a psychodynamic perspective, based on the principle that how you respond to current problems and challenges may be powerfully influenced by your earlier experiences in life. In exploring and seeking to understand these possible links and patterns, you can gain fresh insight and perspective on your life and so be better informed to seek out the best way forward.

I have also like to use Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) techniques where I think it might be helpful for clients in finding practical ways of copying with specific problems.

However, whatever theory underpins counselling, by far the most important aspect of the therapy is the relationship that develops between the client and the therapist. Counselling is at all times a collaborative process with two people working together; so it is vital that you feel comfortable and able to speak about whatever is on your mind.

Choosing the right counsellor and then taking that first step to make contact can seem very hard and is especially so when you are feeling depressed, anxious and distressed. However professional or glossy the website may seem, there is no substitute for meeting face to face and I offer an initial consultation for this purpose. This is an opportunity for us to meet, for you to talk about your concerns and to see if you think I might be someone you could work with and for me to assess if I could help. If we decide to continue, we will then agree a regular time to meet each week.

To set up an initial consultation or to discuss any questions or concerns you have, please contact me by [email protected] or phoning 07787488847.

Training and qualifications

I trained at WPF Therapy and hold:

  • Advanced Diploma in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Counselling
  • Post-Graduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Studies from Roehampton University.
  • Certificate in CBT Skills
  • Certificate in Online Counselling

WPF Therapy is one of the leading training institutions in the UK with a reputation for clinical and academic excellence. It is accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACPand the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

In addition to this initial four year training which qualified me to see clients once a week, I did a further two years training at WPF enabling me to work more frequently with clients if needed; I am now qualified to work twice-weekly.

I am a member of UKCP (The United Kingdom for Counselling and Psychotherapy)

I subscribe to the strict ethical code and professional standards of confidentiality and practice of this organisation.

Over the last ten years I have worked in a variety of therapeutic settings and as well as working for a counselling charity and in private practice in London, I have also worked:

  • as a bereavement counsellor for a local Hospice
  • as a psychotherapist in the NHS Secondary Care Psychological Therapy Services
  • as a school counsellor in a primary and secondary school

In my previous life before training as a psychotherapist and counsellor, I worked as a solicitor in the City of London and so have first hand experience of the pressures and demands that can affect those working in this type of environment.
