Gestalt therapistAbout Me
Counselling can help at difficult moments in life or can offer an opportunity to grow and find new ways of moving forward. The first session is an opportunity for you to talk about the issues that concern you and to ask questions about the process so that you will know what to expect if you decide to take your counselling forward. If you do, then we will arrange a series of meetings at the same time each week.
I work through building a warm and supportive relationship with you which allows you space to explore your difficulties. As far as possible, I work in the ‘here and now’ using sensitive observations to help you to increase your awareness of yourself. With enhanced awareness, it is possible to discover those ‘hidden’ parts of oneself which can result in more satisfying work and family relationships. Together we can challenge unhelpful patterns of thought and behaviour which might be limiting your personal growth or keeping you 'stuck'. We will achieve this through a strong and supportive client-counsellor relationship in which an honest and open conversation can take place and you will have creative autonomy to find your own answers.
With a background in primary education I have developed a particular interest in how our early childhood relationships and our experience in our family of origin can affect how we make adult relationships and how we get along at work and at home. I have an interest in personal empowerment; in how we find balance in our lives when managing our relationships and working lives, and in how work and family contribute to our self-awareness and ideas of who we are or could be. I am also interested in times of transition in our lives and how we develop and change to meet these.
I have worked as a counsellor at City Lit, London's largest adult education institution and with MumsAid, a charity offering counselling to mothers for peri and post-natal issues. I also volunteer with homeless refugees and asylum seeking men to provide a therapeutic listening space.
