Helena Maine
Person-centred/humanistic counsellorAbout Me
am a Mental Health Practitioner within the National Health Service (NHS) in London. I have more than 10 years of work experience with with people experiencing a range of mental health difficulties. I also work with people who wish to work on self-development, achieve their short or long-term goals, improve their inter-personal relationships, self-esteem and self-confidence.
I am a BACP registered Psychological Counsellor and my therapeutic approach is person centred, embedded in the humanistic model of therapy, combined with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I work with clients collaboratively, with client's pace, in a therapeutic and supportive role. I assume a helping and supportive role so that a client can explore his/her options, problem-solve and reach decisions they feel are right for them.
I help with a range of conditions, such as depression, general anxiety, social anxiety, emotional issues and trauma. I can provide short and longer term counselling, as well as one or two, solution focused and problem-solving sessions.
I have extensive work experience with culturally diverse populations and understand how culture may influence mental health issues being viewed from different perspectives within different communities. The non-judgemental and equal treatment of all individuals is paramount to my professional practice.
I am guided by ethical code of conduct, (as required by me professional body) and first and foremost I practice in the safe and caring way. Empathy is the founding block in my approach with all who come to seek my help and support.
I also receive regular professional and clinical supervision by a fully qualified and registered psychotherapist/psychologist, thus adding to my continuous professional development and quality assurance of my practice.
