Helen Lowe Psychodynamic counsellor , SL9
I am a fully qualified and experienced counsellor working in Beaconsfield, Chalfont St Peter, Chesham, and the surrounding area. I work with adults and young people and offer both short term counselling and longer term therapy. I work from a psychodynamic perspective. This way of working acknowledges that our lives are impacted by previous as well as present circumstances. It doesn't mean you are asked to dwell on past experiences, the focus of the work is always what is going on for you here and now. It just means that I am interested in how life has developed for you up to this point. This way of working also pays attention to conflicted feelings we may have in our own minds as well as in our relationships.
What this means is that I will listen without judgement to your thoughts and feelings about your life situation in a warm and confidential environment. I will ask questions, make links, offer observations and help you to voice a range of ideas and thoughts so that things can be understood in new ways. This will feel different to talking to a friend, colleague or family member and will provide relief from distress, alongside the opportunity for personal development and change.
Training and qualifications
I completed a five year postgraduate training accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
Certificate (1 yr) , Diploma (2 yrs) and Advanced Diploma (2 yrs) in Psychodynamic Counselling. Awarded by The Counselling Foundation, St Albans.
I am a registered member of the BACP and abide by their codes of ethics and best practice. I attend several conferences and additional training seminars each year in line with the requirements of the BACP. I have an enhanced DBS certificate and full professional indemnity and am registered with the Information Commissioner's Office.
I currently work as a staff and assessment counsellor at Watford Women's Centre as well as in private practice. I am a member of the Chiltern Counsellors Network and have worked locally for a young person's counselling organisation and adult counselling centre.
Please take a look at my website and blog for more information about how I work and how counselling can help;
If you would like to explore the possibility of counselling with me, please leave me a telephone message (my answering service is confidential) or send me an email and I will contact you to arrange a brief chat over the phone. Ordinarily we would then meet face to face for an initial consultation to discuss your situation. Under the current circumstances I suggest an initial phone call to discuss your needs and then we can arrange a time to have a full initial consultation via Zoom or telephone call if appropriate.
Initial phone call to discuss your needs: No charge
Initial consultation (approx 50 mins) via Zoom video call or telephone: £45.00
Ongoing sessions (50 mins) via Zoom video call or telephone: £45.00
