About Me

Hello, I'm Helen. I'm a Counselling Psychologist registered with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). I'm a member of the BPS Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors (RAPPS) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). I've worked in the NHS, in hospitals and specialised bereavement services; in academia, including working as a Lecturer on the Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at Regent’s University London; and in the charitable sector. In addition to my private practice, I work as an External Examiner for courses at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust and as a reviewer for the academic journals Counselling Psychology Review and Counselling Psychology Quarterly. I also collaborate with Lecturers in Science Education at King’s College London to conduct research and training on promoting wellbeing.

In my private practice, I offer online sessions to individuals via Zoom. I will return to offering face-to-face sessions, in Central London, after the pandemic. I work with an extensive range of psychological issues, including anxiety, depression, family and relationship problems, abuse and historical abuse, stress, and more. I'm particularly experienced in working with issues relating to dying, death, bereavement and other forms of loss, and I've been interviewed by The Observer national newspaper as an expert on these topics; life transitions, self-esteem, personal identity and values; and (therapeutic) training and academia.

As a Counselling Psychologist, I work pluralistically: I'm trained in several forms of therapy, including person-centred, existential-phenomenological, psychodynamic and CBT, and I believe that no one form of therapy is best suited to all people at all times. Rather, I’ll collaborate with you, encouraging and responding to your feedback, to tailor our way of working together to ensure it best meets your unique therapeutic needs, goals, and preferences.

By engaging in therapy, you're making a significant investment in yourself. As such, it's important that you take the time you need to find the right therapist for you. As your therapist, I'll meet you, where you are and as you are, with empathy, warmth, and the utmost respect. Together, we'll work to explore, and develop an in-depth understanding of, the issues you have brought to therapy in the context of your life as a whole, focusing on identifying and unpacking unhelpful patterns, themes, and critical experiences. From this understanding of your self, and your self in relation to others, the world, the past, and the future, we'll work to identify, and to support you in enacting, new ways of being and relating that will enable you to live your life in a way that best fulfils you and accords with your personal values and aspirations. In doing this, I will draw on my position as another self in the therapeutic space, and as a self separate from your world outside the therapeutic space, to offer questions, wonderings, tentative interpretations and perspectives, with the aim of facilitating therapeutic insight and change.

If you think I may be the right therapist for you at this time, please email me so that we can arrange a free 30-minute video call. This will give you an opportunity to ask any questions you have about starting therapy with me, and give us an opportunity to start to think about how we might best work together. I look forward to hearing from you and meeting with you.
