Integrative psychotherapistAbout Me
You may find it difficult to take the first step towards contacting a therapist. Additionally ,this can also be the beginning of a journey of transformation and liberation from self-limiting issues that have held you back in life.
I have been in the field of mental health, having worked in the NHS, for over twenty years and in private practice I have helped people from a wide range of ages and backgrounds and with a wide range of emotional difficulties.
In my work, I draw upon a broad spectrum of psychotherapeutic knowledge and tune my approach to match the uniqueness of each individual I work with. I am flexible in my theoretical approach depending on clients particular needs. I can draw upon the most effective tools and treatment approaches from a number of schools and traditions including Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural (CBT), Humanist (Person- Centred and Gestalt), Existential and Transpersonal. This, for me, is what it means to be an integrative psychotherapist so that I may best meet the needs of my clients and plan an effective intervention and offer appropriate treatment.
I am often consulted by clients who wish to work through and look at areas in their life such as: anxiety; depression; feeling sad; generalised anxiety; work related anxiety; low self-confidence; low self-esteem; panic attack; family issues ;separation and divorce ;adults who experienced child sexual abuse; relationship issues (in particular communication difficulties); mens mental health; bereavement; and those who wish to gain a deeper understanding of their life experiences, these are just some of the reasons why clients contact my practice.
I base my work on positive psychology to enable people to find meaningful purpose, develop potential and lead fulfilling lives. My approach is on thriving through intrapersonal development and interpersonal transformation.
I have a particular specialist knowledge, expertise, empathy and passion to support women experiencing birth fear, trauma and loss in their journey through pregnancy, birth and parenthood.
I am familiar with the crisis created by cancer in families and the impact of special needs in children on the whole family.
Life is so diverse and people so different from each other yet ,we share so much emotional understanding in common. I therefore welcome diversity and have engaged in a training which doesn’t limit me to a particular theory of psychotherapy.
You may wonder if you will find it difficult going over your traumatic experiences to the point of being really traumatised by recollecting them. I have visualisation techniques and relaxation strategies which help protect against potential re-traumatisation.
Nothing will happen in the room ,unless you choose to explore it.I will endeavour to learn from you what works best in supporting you through your journey.
I’m here to support you and work alongside you as a compassionate companion through the challenges you might be facing.
If you would like to explore further whether I would be able to help you then contact me for a preliminary meeting/conversation. Taking up psychotherapy is a commitment and a risk in trust, it’s very important for you to feel comfortable and of course it will take you time to be able to trust me.
We would work at your pace . You decide what you bring into the room in terms of your thoughts and feelings. I see the process of psychotherapy as a partnership in creative care, solution focused exploration and hopefully resolution. My primary aim would be to help you find the best way to live ,your life for you.
