About Me

Edward has over 15 years experience  working with Mental Health, Child Development & Trauma Recovery. BACP Registered Counselling and Psychotherapist with a Degree in Integrative Therapy.

During the Coronavirus Lockdown I am able to offer one top one online or telephone counselling to adults and young people (16 to 21) and relationship therapy for couples.

In my counsellor training I have developed a skills set which includes; integrative talking psychotherapy, solution focused therapy, mindfulness, cognitive behavioural therapy, interpersonal relationship counselling, expressive arts, sand tray and therapeutic play techniques.

Throughout my life and my training I have focused on the belief that it is vital to respect that we all think, feel and react in different ways. Because of this I feel it is important to work holistically by integrating different theories into my work to create a unique therapy adapted to suit your individual needs as my client/or clients.

Counselling differs from any other relationship, as it provides interaction that is focused purely on you. Discovering what is important for you as an individual and learning to identify and use your inner resources to cope in times of stress, anxiety, bereavement, depression and emotional upheaval.

Within our counselling relationship you will be free to express yourself - there are no thoughts or feelings that are 'out of bounds'. Whatever thoughts or feelings arise, we will explore these together and try to understand them. As your counsellor I will not give you advice or tell you what to do. Instead I use my skills, intuition and training to support you in finding your own way forward, while you rediscover and build upon your own self esteem and confidence.

All young people deserve to have someone to talk to in times of stress. I offer 1 to 1 talking and creative therapy and/or play therapy depending on the individual child or young persons needs. Low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, family break-up, bereavement, bullying, school phobia, abuse of any kind, eating disorders, self harm and substance abuse, internet addiction are just a few examples of what children and young person may be facing in their day to day lives, on top of all the other pressures of physical, neurobiological and psychological change they experience as they grow up. I offer children & young people a safe place to express fears and concerns and giving them the opportunity to work out strategies to help them cope and begin to feel better. I offer younger children the opportunity to work through emotional issues, trauma or behavioural difficulties using therapeutic play and art, allowing the child to show me their internal world through symbolism and action rather than words.

As a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I also hold a Certificate of Proficiency and I am on the Register which is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority for Health & Social Care. I am bound by the BACP's Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy and subject to its Codes of Practice. Part of being a qualified and professional counsellor means I had therapy as part of my training and will be in and out of therapy for the rest of my career when I feel it necessary. This is how I know how difficult it can be to take that first step and how hard it can be to continue.

I also undertake regular supervision every month to adhere to B.A.C.P. requirements, and hold professional indemnity insurance. In addition to counselling in private practice, I offer group staff support in prison for RAPT (Rehabilitation for Addicted Prisoners Trust) and I have worked with adult clients at Life-Force in Colchester on a one to basis.

I presently counsel adolescents (7-18 year olds) at schools in Suffolk and Essex. I also have experience of facilitating children's group programmes for Compassion a Suffolk based charity working with Domestic Violence & Abuse. I am also a group trainer at Cavendish Training who supply courses for mental health professionals. I also worked in the social care sector for 6 years and have experience of working with vulnerable adults (mental health and learning difficulties).I hold a current Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (C.R.B) Certificate from Suffolk County Council , RAPT & Compassion.
