Dr Damian Stoupe
Person-centred/humanistic counsellorAbout Me
Life is not always easy. Even the strongest people need a bit of help to work through some of the more challenging problems life throws at us. Everyone has battles and hurdles to overcome at some point. If you are struggling with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationship problems, or any other issues, you should know that there is hope for a better tomorrow. As someone who has been through the mill myself, I know people, especially men, are hesitant about seeking help and support for emotional issues. But when you do, you are taking a first step towards getting to a better place, to being a mentally fitter you.
For many people I work with, we follow a simple four-step process. We explore what is happening right now, reflect on those experiences, try to understand those experiences, and then move forward with practical, effective actions. I do set homework, for example, I might give you some mindfulness exercises, ask you to go for a walk, do some relaxation exercises - which will keep our sessions open for deeper conversations.
My counselling approach is conversational, all the while trying to understand what is happening for you. Each conversation should be transformational, even if only in some sma[[way; which means we must work together. I do not sit quietly; we work collaboratively. Our conversations will gently challenge you, provide feedback, offer advice, and help identify and develop valuable life skills during the sessions, all the time looking to your future while being guided by the past.
