Art therapy psychotherapistAbout Me
I see myself as a person that is able to work and communicate with people from all backgrounds, I am warm, open and empathetic, able to gain people's trust and help them to feel relaxed. I believe I am patient, tolerant, and sensitive with an impartial, non-judgmental attitude, trustworthy and with a good sense of personal integrity and ethics.
I believe I am someone that has compassion, resilience and who is self aware, with the ability to examine my own thoughts and feelings and understand my limitations as well my skills and abilities. The knowledge gained in my life, in my professional experience and also in my training has given me confidence and passion to make a positive impact and difference to people’s lives.
I intend to bring a natural warmth and creativity to my work as a therapist. I am passionate about offering a space for my clients to connect with their vitality, their capacity to heal and grow. As an integrative psychotherapist I draw on a range of approaches to offer you a personal experience of therapy suited to your individual needs.
I offer a space where you can resource yourself in what may be difficult, painful, or confusing circumstances. Where words fail you, or get in the way, I also offer the possibility of creative and artistic expression. Working with various art forms such as the use of sand - tray and miniature, drawing, music, puppetry and any other art form that you find familiar and comfortable with. No previous experience of working with the arts is necessary.
When I started my training as psychotherapist, I discovered that there were other ways to explore and to express myself, other ways to tell my story, ways that words wouldn’t be found in my experience. I discovered that by working with various art materials and forms I could give expression to my innermost feelings and thoughts.
I continue amazed by how, like our dreams, creative expression gives us direct access to what is unconscious, hidden, under the surface of ourselves – the creative act itself, offering a safe and contained space in which to discover and recover our true selves.
Now when I think of therapy, I begin to imagine those two chairs, but I also picture paper, paints, clay – different colours and textures, different ways of making a mark.
Of course words are essential, invaluable tools in our efforts to understand ourselves, and each other and name the feelings and situations we see ourselves in. I have enjoyed stringing words together to express myself here. Sometimes though, it is necessary to go beyond words, to enrich our language and understanding with the power of our imagination and our natural creative force and transformation.
