About Me

I have a broad range of experience working with people from all walks of life. Our work together can be for a few weeks through to several years. I do not tend to specify a specific term of therapy but leave an open end so that we can review how things are going and plan an end date together.

I am psychodynamically trained and believe that our childhood relational experiences and the home life where we grew up forms the base of our personality. This pattern of relating is not always helpful in every circumstance and can form a block in certain situations.

If you are contemplating therapy you might have a clear view of what is causing the difficulty, maybe loss of some kind such as a relationship break up or a bereavement, perhaps it is a general feeling of low self worth, anxiety and loneliness. It can be the case that you don't know who or what is causing you to seek help but you feel there is a need to try something like therapy.

It is very different talking to a therapist rather than friends and family. There is no history so no pre formed ideas and judgements about who you are and what you have or haven't done. As your therapist I am not going to be sharing anything about me so the focus of our conversation is always you and what you want to bring to therapy on a particular day.

I provide a regular, safe and private space offering a weekly appointment with a specific time slot. Knowing that you have this weekly appointment means that concerns can more easily be held in the back of your mind until the day of therapy. This can enable the rest of your week to feel a little easier. Sharing worries is the starting point it validates your feelings and you begin to feel known and understood. Over time it can also allow you to gain a view of yourself and others from a different stance. You can develop more self awareness, those trigger points and sensitive parts which bring difficulties start to be recognised, known and allow change.

If you are interested in checking whether I might be someone that you could work with it is best to think about arranging a phone conversation to begin with. We can exchange some details and then if you decide to take it further we can arrange an initial consultation.

Training and qualifications

I began my training in 2004 with a Certificate in Advanced Counselling Skills and Theory. At the time I had been working for various charities and the public sector supporting parents and carers whose children were having difficulties in school and in their early adult life for various reasons.

I qualified as a psychodynamic psychotherapist in 2013 having trained for 5 years as a therapist working with adults. My Postgraduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Theory & Practice was obtained from Wpf and is recognised by bacp and ukcp enabling me to be a registered and accredited therapist with these professional bodies. I follow their codes of practice and professional conduct.

I am interested in many methods of self care and attended the Advanced Professional Training in the Therapeutic use of Mindfulness (British Mindfulness Institute) 2016

In 2019 I studied at the Tavistock Relationships practice and gained my Certificate in Psychosexual Studies.
