Integrative psychotherapistAbout Me
Working online obviously creates a different dimension to the therapeutic space, however, I manage to maintain a warm and safe space for clients to work through their presenting problems. Building a relationship based on trust allows them to safely explore the complexities of past relationships affecting their here and now. Learning and accepting our past enables us to move forward. Change is frightening, yet it is a necessary part of life - often we are very resistant to it, even though we know that there is 'something that just doesn't feel right'. Working with clients to find that 'something' and support them towards change is something that I find fascinating and drives my love for this work.
We are currently living through a period of uncertainty and the pandemic has triggered many hidden or latent emotional triggers that have brought my clients to a place of reflection and re-evaluation. Feelings such as anxiety, uncertainty, fear, loneliness, feeling claustrophobic, anger, resentment are all around us at the moment; our relationships are suffering, not only with others, but with our own selves. Although we are "all in this together" my experience and skills enable me to contain those feelings as clients gradually unravel them; to listen with empathy, to hear those unspoken thoughts without judgment and sometimes to offer an alternative way of seeing them.
As a Supervisor, I am particularly interested in working with trainee or newly qualified therapists (equally happy to take on experienced ones!) and I feel that my background in working with adults in education as well as my experience as a therapist is useful here.
