Anne Lawrance-Anderson
Integrative counsellorAbout Me
I'm an experienced psychotherapeutic counsellor, student mentor and bereavement volunteer working with adults seeking support for a variety of issues. These include anxiety, stress and depression; life transitions; bereavement and loss; relationship difficulties; a difficult past; health issues; infertility and miscarriage; menopause and midlife; and low self-esteem and lack of confidence.
I offer clients a safe, confidential space, with non-judgemental support and encouragement, where you can freely explore whatever issues you are facing. Counselling can enable you to get in touch with your true feelings, make sense of your experience and your way of being in the world, grow in self-awareness and start thinking about things in a different way. It can help get your life back on track.
My work is underpinned by my psychodynamic training. This approach takes into account your past experiences and how these may impact on the present, and works with an understanding that very difficult feelings can be repressed by our conscious mind when they are too painful for us to process. These buried or unconscious feelings, however, can still drive our behaviour, leading to a sense we are not really in control of our lives or are caught up in repeated patterns of unwanted behaviour. Drawing on this foundation can help you to develop greater self-awareness which is a key part of the therapeutic process.
I offer both open-ended and time-limited therapy and approach each client relationship individually. I also draw on a variety of approaches including mindfulness, breathing exercises, Solution-focused Brief Therapy and other creative activities, as appropriate. Encouragement to focus on self-care and self-compassion forms an important part of my approach. Together, and at a pace that suits you, we'll work out what you need to help you feel happier, more secure and better able to cope with whatever you are facing.
