About me
Do you struggle with anxiety, poor self-esteem, relationship difficulties, or other emotional issues? Do you sometimes find it difficult to articulate what the problem is or feel that words are just not enough to express it? It might be that Dramatherapy is right for you. Dramatherapy is a form of psychological therapy/psychotherapy (BADth), which makes use of a variety of creative-expressive techniques to help you explore your feelings. It is particularly helpful when you struggle to articulate what the problem is or when words are just not enough to express it. If you want to understand better. I am Dr Marta Paglioni, a Dramatherapist registered with HCPC and member of BADth (British Association of Dramatherapists). I also hold a PhD in the field of Health and Social Sciences which brought me to a part time university role as a Senior Lecturer in Communication skills and Therapeutic approaches for student nurses. My practice is deeply humanistic and trauma informed, and as such, the body and embodied practices are central to my work. I look at clients as unique individuals who have at their very core a deep need for connection to themselves and significant others. Any judgement is suspended when you enter our therapy room. Compassion is at the core of my practice and Dramatherapy can be a safe space, a weekly ritual to help you reconnect to your true self and a meaningful life path through a wide range of creative and embodied techniques.

Training and qualifications
After 15 years of experience as an actress, director, and social theatre facilitator in Italy -on top of training and working as a support worker for children with autism, older people in community centres and completing a BA in Performing Arts- I moved to the UK to qualify as a Dramatherapist. I qualified in Roehampton University in 2016 with an MA in Dramatherapy, and my work experiences prior to opening my private practice have been mainly with young people and adults with eating disorders, autism, personality disorders, psychosis, depression, anxiety, self-harm, learning and physical disabilities, and with children with special needs. In 2017 I was awarded with a clinical PhD studentship from Bournemouth University to carry out a study on the lived experience of older people in Emergency Department and of those who care for them, with a particular focus on compassionate communication and on humanisation of healthcare. My research focus has been at the threshold of health and social sciences and has given me a solid preparation in the field of social sciences which now complements both my artistic and therapeutic background. I started the Cosyroom Dramatherapy in 2018 and since then I have been working with great satisfaction with a variety of clients both children and adults. Along the way, as an HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) registered professional, I have been engaging in continuous professional development through which I have built new skills and acquired new tools which complements my Dramatherapy skills, such as knowledge of theory and techniques of IFS (Internal Family Systems) model of therapy, Polyvagal Theory, Narrative Therapy, Developmental Transformations, models of working with bereavement, and more.
