About Me

About me

I am a fully qualified Integrative Humanistic Counsellor & Cognitive Behaviour Therapist.  I also practice in mindfulness and relaxation techniques, which I can offer you as part of a package within your counselling sessions, to support you with your continual growth.

What I am committing to you in counselling:

I don't judge you and I don't discriminate.  I offer empathy and I am approachable and friendly in my work with you.  I believe you are the "professional" and "expert" around yourself and issues and not the other way round. I will help you explore your past and present issues and support and help you find new ways of thinking and coping.

I also support people that live with long term medical conditions and how that affects their mental health - for example HIV, Multiple Sclerosis, Ataxia, Fibromyalgia, cancer and others. Anxiety, depression or general low mood affects day to day living with such conditions and people often worry also about others perceptions of them. I can help you manage and explore these feelings and support you in finding effective ways of coping.

You are a unique individual and I will work with you to tailor your therapy to your needs.

The business side of me:

I adhere to the ethical standards for safe therapeutic practice as a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy). I have successfully been working within my counselling career via face-to-face and Skype online for several years.  (Online therapy is a useful consideration if you are limited on time, transport issues, live in a remote area for example). If you would like to contact me via email or telephone I am very happy to discuss my therapeutic approach with you to enable you to find the right Counsellor for you and reply to you confidentially.

Why Counselling

Some problems are difficult to deal with and it can be hard to know which way to turn or who to talk to.  Advice from friends or family can be well-meant but even that can sometimes confuse the situation and you can find yourself running round in circles!

I will help you come to terms with distressing and traumatic events and help you find effective ways of dealing with mental health issues such as anxiety and depression - a common problem that can affect anyone with the stresses of everyday life! Many people find "mental health issues" remain stigmatised in today's world - I hope to help you off-load what some may consider even a "small problem" - but it may not be to you. A chance to off-load your worries and share with an independent and caring person can go a long way to increase your well-being.

What happens in Counselling

I offer you the opportunity to discuss issues that are impacting your life in a professional way.  I will not judge you but I will accept you for who you are and provide a safe environment to work together.
