About Me

Hello. I'm Stephen Reynolds a Chartered Counselling Psychologist, an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) and an Interpersonal therapist and supervisor (IPT). I help individuals with their psychological wellbeing. I have private, public and voluntary sector experience as a counselling psychologist, CBT and IPT therapist. My interest involves bereavement and low self-esteem, and a variety of other conditions too. I have over 20 years of experience working as a psychologist and counsellor in the NHS and other agencies, I am also registered with the HCPC, BABCP and IPT UK.

I offer Cognitive Behavioural therapy (CBT, Interpersonal therapy (IPT) and counselling. Also, supervision in a safe, confidential and non-judgmental environment to individuals working on either an open-ended or short-term fixed time period.

Therapy information:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioural therapy is based on the idea that our thoughts cause our feelings and behaviours, not external things, like people, situations and events. The benefit of this fact is that we can change the way we think to feel and act better even if the situation does not change. In my experience we can often take our thoughts and feeling at face value and not reflect or challenge them. CBT is also a brief and time-limited therapy

Counselling

Counselling centres on listening to you and supporting you. You determine what issue concerning your childhood or adulthood you discuss. An aim of counselling is to enable you to speak about a difficulty and find a solution that is appropriate for you.

Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)

Interpersonal therapy is a time-limited and structured psychotherapy for moderate and severe depression. A central idea in IPT is that psychological symptoms, such as depressed mood, can be understood as a response to current difficulties in our everyday interactions with others. In turn, the depressed mood can also affect the quality of our relationships. IPT typically focuses on the following relationship areas: Conflict with another person, Life changes that affect how you feel about yourself and others, Grief and loss and difficulties with starting and keeping relationships going.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends cognitive behavioural therapy for a number of mental health conditions such as Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and social anxiety disorder. IPT and counselling are also recommended for depression.
