Ryan Bird
Person-centred/humanistic counsellorAbout Me
I am a fully qualified counsellor and psychotherapist. It is important you find the right counsellor for you so do read through my profile, recognising how difficult it can be to find someone who is right for you I offer our first session at only £20. As an accredited member of the National Counselling Society, I am fully insured and attend regular counselling supervision in keeping with the National Counselling Societies ethical framework.
I work online via Skype and by phone, this allows me to provide a quality service to you at a reduced rate that is more accessible and convenient.
My way of working:
I am a humanistic counsellor, as such my way of working is relational and existential. I believe in focusing on the here-and-now, and on the therapeutic relationship. I work hard to provide the right conditions to promote change and growth, which involves connecting with you (the client), respecting your autonomy and helping in fostering a greater sense of self-sufficiency and agency. I do this with the provision of person-centred counselling and solution-focused brief therapy. I have experience of working with a number of various mental health issues, with a special interest in working with anxiety, including social and health anxiety, as well as work related stress and depression.
How can counselling help you:
Talking is helpful. Being able to verbalise the thoughts and feelings that go around our heads can bring clarity and insight in the place of confusion and lack of understanding. Being genuinely heard and understood by another person, feeling accepted, and being able to be our true selves without judgement can lead to a sense of freedom and empowerment. Being in a therapeutic relationship can help us to work on issues that prevent us being the best version of ourselves, so we can more easily reach our potential.
What to expect from the first session:
Our initial session is an opportunity for us to be able to get to know each other a little more and see if we can work together. It is a chance for you to see how you feel about talking to me and if you feel that I am the right counsellor for you. I will ask you some questions to make sure that I am competent enough to work with your issues and to assess the appropriateness of our working together.
There is no obligation to continue after the first session if you do not wish to do so.
