Peter Hutt
Person-centred/humanistic counsellorAbout Me
Offering you a calm, confidential environment and providing you with a space in which to express your thoughts, feelings and emotions, you can be assured that I will receive you with empathy and without judgement. Drawing on my extensive training, work and personal experience I can help you explore difficult issues, obstacles, choices and aspirations, whether they are current problems of a practical nature or repetitive patterns from your past affecting your daily life. Together we will work towards strengthening your inner resources and confidence, helping you to feel more positive.
'When you are in psychological distress and someone really hears you without passing judgement on you, without trying to take responsibility for you, without trying to mold you, it feels damn good!'
― Carl R. Rogers,
I am an Experiential Person Centred Counsellor. This means that our therapy sessions aren't about me or my opinions. They are about you. I'll help you to understand yourself more and prevent the same things happening over and over again.
By working together in counselling sessions, you will start to understand some of the reasons behind your difficult emotions or destructive behaviours. Perhaps you find it hard to cope with feelings such as depression, anger, loss, anxiety, bereavement, relationship problems, loss of self-belief or low self-esteem. Maybe you have suffered childhood trauma or abuse. Sometimes we can feel that we are not 'good enough', or have an unexplainable feeling of 'impending doom' inside. It may simply be a feeling that things aren't quite right.
Whatever it is that you are finding difficult to cope with in your life, I can help you to explore it in a professional, compassionate, warm, non-judgemental environment.
I see people with a wide range of issues including relationship troubles, anxiety, depression, feelings of worthlessness, excessive drinking habits, alcohol or drug addiction, alcoholism, prescription or illicit drug abuse, gambling, gaming, shopping and overeating.
My knowledge of 12 step programs gives me a genuine understanding of recovery from addictions.
I earned my University qualification as a mature student, meaning that I have experienced the demands of modern life and have come through some troubled and dark periods that often accompany it. My knowledge comes from both personal experience and academic study.
We can meet at the Wilbury Clinic in Wilbury Rd, Hove or I have rooms next to Preston Park Station (18a Clermont Road) and near to The Level (Citibase) in Brighton.
Alternatively, I can arrange to visit you in your own home or in an appropriate venue of your choice, such as your place of work. The venue must offer a confidential environment. I will travel within a 10 mile radius of Brighton. Please contact me for details.
