About Me

I specialise in anxiety, depression, and questions about ways of living and being. I offer individual therapy, couples therapy, and clinical supervision. Having had an international clientele for many years, I have extensive experience of working online. Sessions can be in-person in my consulting room in East London or walk-and-talk in Hackney and Walthamstow Marshes or online (video-call or phone). As a psychoanalytical psychotherapist and supervisor, my approach is based on listening. My psychoanalytical approach emphasises thoughtfulness and change; the therapeutic approach reminds us that care and compassion are the heart of the work.I  offer individual psychotherapy or psychoanalysis, couples psychotherapy or  psychoanalysis, and psychoanalytical, reflective supervision.

Sessions can be in-person in my consulting room in East London or walk-and-talk in Hackney and Walthamstow Marshes or online (video-call or phone). I offer a free 20 minute phone or video-chat to anyone considering psychotherapy or looking for a supervisor.

As well as individual and couples psychotherapy,  I also offer psychoanalytical, reflective supervision for trainees and practitioners, including work with trainees, psychiatric social workers, art therapists, clinical psychologists, and others wishing to reflect on the psychotherapeutic and psychoanalytical aspects of their work with clients. This can be in-person or online.

If you would like to talk to a psychotherapist, please phone, text, or email, and we'll schedule a phone or video session at a time that’s mutually convenient. I have good availability for long-term psychotherapy and reflective supervision.  And, I offer a free 20 minute video call, if you have questions.

Do you want time and space to talk?
I'll listen. That's the heart of psychotherapy. My name is Dr Laura Chernaik; I offer open-ended psychoanalytical psychotherapy or clinical supervision in East London (Leyton, Walthamstow, Dalston, and Hackney) addressed to the individual client or couple. I specialise in anxiety, depression, and loss of meaning. Sessions can be once-weekly or 2-5 times a week. Please contact me via my website https://www.laurachernaik.com or mobile 07947 330 631 or click the Contact button or Book Now button for a free 20 minute phone or video call or to make an appointment for the initial consultation. If you are interested in walk-and-talk, Walthamstow and Hackney Marshes are nearby. If you are a trainee or practitioner interested in psychoanalyical, reflective supervision, I offer time and space to reflect on the psychotherapeutic and psychoanalytical aspects of your work with clients.

Psychoanalytical psychotherapy is a mixture of two processes. Psychoanalysis focuses on listening and questioning; it is a thoughtful way to explore what it is that you desire. It can open up a space for change. Psychotherapy is care: the therapeutic aspects of the work. Each psychoanalytical psychotherapy is different, a mixture of analytic and therapeutic processes. It can open up possibilities; we can explore a new way of being in the world.

Psychotherapy is talk-therapy. A psychotherapist listens with her heart. As we work together, something unpredictable and unknowable happens.

It's rare to be truly listened to, and that's what psychoanalysis or psychotherapy offer--a chance to be heard, a chance to explore your feelings and ideas. Are you anxious or depressed? Are you experiencing a loss of meaning?

Do you sometimes wonder what effect the past has had on you?

Do you have questions about relationships and sexuality?

Every analysand is unique and the questions are wide-ranging and unexpected.

I also work with couples. If you are interested in couples therapy (£130 per session, free 20 minute consultation), please contact me.

I also offer psychoanalyical and reflective supervision for practitioners and trainees. If you would like to reflect on the psychotherapeutic and psychoanalytical aspects of your work with clients, please contact me.

Artistic practices, from writing to the visual arts, are a particular interest of mine. Would you like to talk through ideas for your artistic practice? Are you working on interdisciplinary or experimental genres and would you like to explore relations between theory and practice?

I offer free 20 minute phone or video appointments for people who want to chat or who are considering psychotherapy or psychoanalysis or reflective supervision. If you are considering psychotherapy or psychoanalysis or reflective supervision please make contact via my website https://www.laurachernaik.com or email me on [email protected] or phone 07947 330 631.

To make an appointment for the initial consultation please click the Contact button or Book now button on this Welldoing page. If you make the appointment for the initial consultation via this Welldoing page, you will be asked to pay in advance. If you contact me via [email protected] or 07947 330 631 you will have the option of paying online on the day.
