Josephine Sheppard Counsellor , SW11
I am a UKCP accredited Psychotherapist and Counsellor with nine years of varied clinical experience. I have been in private practice for five years. My experience includes clinical work at Wimbledon Guild of Social Welfare, Mind (Hammersmith & Fulham) and Victim Support Westminster.
My therapeutic orientation is integrative which means that I am able to draw on more than one theoretical approach as appropriate for each individual client. My approach to therapy is that it is something of a shared journey in which I am a facilitator of the process. In my practice, the first few sessions of therapy are usually spent exploring the current problem and making links to origins in early life, as well as expressing, acknowledging and coming to terms with difficult feelings. Later sessions often take the form of looking at ways to cope with and manage troublesome feelings and behaviours in present life situations.
I undertook five years of initial training at Regent's University School of Psychotherapy and Psychology, one of the UK's premier training institutions. I hold a Post-Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy (2006) and an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy (2010). I gained my UKCP (United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapy) accreditation in June 2011 and I am also a registered member of BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy). I undertake continuous professional development and additionally hold a Practitioner Certificate in Addictions and Eating Disorders (2013) and am currently training in Schema Therapy (a combination of Psychodynamic, Gestalt and CBT).
As a member of UKCP I am bound by their professional code of ethics.
I offer an initial free half-hour informal consultation to give prospective clients the opportunity to discuss further their reasons for seeking therapy and for me to address any questions about my professional practice.
I offer short-term therapy, of say six to twelve sessions, to deal with specific problems such as bereavement, relationship breakup, and longer term open-ended therapy where clients can work on such matters as repeating destructive and negative life patterns and behaviours, childhood abuse and trauma etc.
My rates are from 45.00 to 70.00 per sixty-minute hour and vary according to ability to pay, which will be discussed at the first meeting.
