Jo Aldred
Person-centred/humanistic psychotherapistAbout Me
Jo is a humanistic therapist meaning her specialism is the human experience. She is passionate about how the therapeutic relationship can facilitate insight and believes in the human capacity for change.
Jo works creatively, informed by humanistic philosophy, Gestalt , Person-centred and TA theory. This means she believes every person has worth, the right to autonomy (to decide their own future) and that a person should feel safe and secure in order to explore their sense of self. If a person is provided with the right conditions for growth, they'll always move towards change. Jo finds the humanistic approach fits well with her own personal morals and values of integrity, honesty and empathy.
Jo describes herself as fascinated by the stories people tell themselves & of themselves, and the affect of interpersonal relationships - People’s stories connect their past to their present, helping them to reflect on what they do and why they do it. Take that first step into your story and contact Jo for an initial session .
EXPERIENCE
In addition to private practice, Jo is an honorary psychotherapist within an NHS service offering counselling interventions to members of staff.
As a practitioner, she’s worked as a voluntary therapist at an inner city college in the Midlands (age 18+) and been a voluntary counsellor working with families and carers of substance users within the Brighton & Hove area. Her work with both placements often focussed on clients beginning to safely to express feelings. exploring their interpersonal relationships and vulnerability in the face of tragedy. Jo also has an interest in parenthood, relationships, depression & trauma.
With all therapeutic work, Jo has an experienced supervisor to ensure she continues to excel with her professional standards and development.
