What can the client expect
Sometimes it can be good to talk to somebody to gain clarity on what is going on and what it is someone wants. Some things might seem unique to you, but are in fact common in all people.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) gives people a chance to take a step back, look at their life and gain perspective, by recognising how your thoughts and behaviours are impacting on your life. Identifying ones triggers and becoming aware of ones responses and patterns is generally the first step. Breaking down problems into smaller parts, can help to overcome these problems.
I help people develop awareness on how past events may have shaped patterns that are impacting on the here and now. Life happens in the ‘here and now’ but sometimes people can get stuck in the past. Often ideas and behaviours served a purpose at one stage in life, but now are no longer helpful. CBT can help you to identify your choices and what you need to do to move forwards with your life.
CBT has become one of the most popular forms of talking therapy. Research shows it is a highly effective treatment for overcoming emotional problems. CBT has been tried and tested in numerous scientific studies.
Typically the sessions involve:
Supporting clients with stress management
Relaxation, visualisation and mindfulness techniques
Practical problems solving
Developing more accepting and flexible beliefs
Generating important life skills
Strengthening an individual’s sense of self
Helping people to fulfil their potential
Emphatic listening and a non-judgemental approach.
A secure and comfortable environment
• Traditional CBT: conducting comprehensive assessments, constructing collaborative formulations, planning individual treatments, following treatment plan, providing advice and psycho education. I also incorporate third wave CBT; and pay attention to the unique needs of the individual at that moment in time; in their lives and in the therapy room.
