EMDR therapistAbout Me
If you have tried various types of therapy before and still left struggling with your difficulties, then perhaps you should consider Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. EMDR is an approach that helps people to overcome long term emotional distress to deal with past traumatic events, that have gone unprocessed or processed in a negative or unhealthy way, and consequently incorporated into an individual's cognitive processes. It is generally used to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) yet can also successfully treat phobias, anxiety problems, grief and bereavement and more. It can also help us to process unsettling or disturbing feelings arising out of unpleasant situations, such as arguments. I find EMDR a powerful approach that can achieve results where other approaches have proved resistant.
I am a qualified nurse, EMDR therapist and service manager. I trained as a Registered Mental Nurse (RMN) in the mid 1980s. During my 10 yrs in the NHS, I worked as nurse in acute mental health services and as trainee therapist in residential psychotherapy services, and I spent my last few years in the NHS, as counsellor within the specialist Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Manchester. I then worked in the voluntary sector in the substance misuse field with detox, specialist residential services and primary care services. From 2006 to 2010, I worked in a private mental healthcare organisation providing psychological therapy services. Having seen the amazing achievements with Eye Movement, Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR)EMDR, I decided to complete my training and qualified in 2010. I then set up my own practice and have been self-employed since. I achieved my accreditation with EMDR UK & Europe in 2013 and have been practising since.
