About Me

Hi, my name is Bernie. I am a qualified Person-Centred counsellor and a registered member of the BACP. I provide a safe, confidential, non-judgmental space to allow my clients to explore their feelings and gain an understanding of their situation.

You may be feeling anxious, depressed or having relationship issues. Or you may be confused as to how you are feeling, you're just tired of pretending everything is ok and want to feel better. You may have tried talking to friends or family and found it hasn't helped you feel better. At times like these, seeing a counsellor or psychotherapist can help you unburden yourself in a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space.

How can counselling help you

Everyone can gain a lot from discovering more about themselves through counselling and psychotherapy. Having the chance to explore your patterns of feelings and behaviours, and those experiences and memories which impact on you and your relationships, can be transforming.

People often seek out counselling and psychotherapy when they are in emotional distress or have a specific issue they want to address. Therapy during a crisis can help ease symptoms and enable you to get back to living the life you want. Each person is individual, and your experience of counselling will be unique to you.

My approach is Person-centred

Person-centred counselling is based on a deep respect for the person, and the belief that the relationship between counsellor and client is of primary importance. As a person-centered therapist I believe that it is the client who knows best what hurts, that the client has within herself or himself the capacity to begin a healing process and that that process can be helped to unfold within the safe, non-judgmental, understanding type of relationship that person-centred counsellors are trained to offer.

Person-centred counsellors believe certain qualities are essential to create a safe, supportive and challenging therapeutic environment, including:

A deep acceptance.
A willingness to understand.
A commitment to being genuine in our relationship.
These qualities, offered professionally and consistently, are the central and distinctive characteristics of the Person-Centred Approach to Therapy.

How I can help you

My aim is to establish a warm, mutually respectful working relationship between us to allow us to explore together what has brought you to therapy and anything else that may arise during our time together, accepting you wherever you may be. This gives the potential for a healing experience that will increase awareness and understanding, while at the same time empowering you to make healthy choices.

I am passionate about my profession and have found my vocation in life with my counselling work.

Previous client's feedback - "You make me feel that I am the only person you work with."
