Barbara Clarkson Transactional analysis psychotherapist , LS2
Hello, I'm Barbara. I've been working in Leeds as a psychotherapist for over 20 years, and during this time it has been my privilege to work with many people to help them come to terms with the experiences they have had or are having in life, and to find the resilience and peace that they can draw on to move forward positively.
There are times when we experience life as an enormous battle, or a deep pit of despair and hopelessness, or a long and lonely journey with little meaning. Seeking support from a psychotherapist can often feel like a very big and challenging step to take. I understand the importance of you finding the right person to work with when you feel unsure and vulnerable, and I'm happy to meet with you to discuss what you need and enable you to check out if I'm the right therapist for you.
Sometimes people don't actually know clearly what it is that they are looking for from therapy, apart from wanting how they are feeling now to stop, and that is ok. We can discuss how things are and work from there. Other people have very clear goals, and even a set timescale for achieving them, and we can talk about those too and see if what I can offer you fits with your overall plan.
I am trained in "Transactional Analysis" which offers me a wide range of ideas and tools to enable people to understand what is happening and why, and provides a framework for making changes and moving on. As a humanistic and integrative psychotherapist, I also believe that human beings need relationship with other human beings in order to heal, recover, get stronger and take the next step, so the work I do with clients in therapy is founded on us creating a therapeutic relationship that provides a safe place where you can explore the issues that trouble you.
I began my travels into becoming a therapist through having therapy myself, and got so enthusiastic about the process that not only did I complete the long training and become a registered psychotherapist, I still continue to have my own regular therapy. I know that there is always more that I can discover about myself and how I can live a fuller and richer life, and psychotherapy plays a key part in that "journey".
Please check out my website and Facebook page to find out more about me, or contact me to make an appointment.
